JANUARY 5-28, 2009

REGISTRATION INFORMATION

Please not that there has been an update on 7/3/2008.
We are no longer including the international flight tickets in the package (read details below).

Greetings!

The information below will give you a better understanding of what the Thailand Journey is all about, what it includes and what is not. Before registering we would like to know a little bit about yourself. Give us a brief summary including your age, previous experience in massage therapy, bodywork, yoga and other relevant forms of the healing arts. We also want to know if you have any health concerns that may interfere with your experience to participate fully in the Thailand Journey.

After your full payment you will receive a specific day-by-day itinerary and a document with practical tips about money, safety, health, climate, food, language, what to bring, what not to bring, and many other useful pieces of information to prepare yourself for the Journey.

Your registration fee by check (see below) will guarantee your place on the Thailand Journey.

Included in the Thailand Journey:

  • Domestic roundtrip flights Bangkok-Chiang Mai.

  • Local professional Thai guides will be hosting in Bangkok. This includes guided tours to several major attractions including the famous Wat Po temple, The Grand Palace with the Emerald Buddha, the Temple of the Dawn, and an interesting boat trip on the Chao Praya river. Our guides are fluent in English and licensed by the Tourism Authority of Thailand. They are not only well informed but highly entertaining. Several buffet style lunches are included during the first days of the Journey.

  • A guided full-day tour and transport to the ancient capital Ayutthaya located outside Bangkok. Includes visits to palaces, temples, ancient Buddhist ruins and museums.

  • Breakfast, lunch and some of the dinners during the first three days of the Journey.

  • Spacious double occupancy accommodation in Hotels (3-star) and comfortable Thai Guest Houses. All rooms have attached bathrooms. (Single room is available at an extra $375 for the entire Journey).

  • A 10-day Thai massage course with a Thai master instructor at a recognized Thai massage school in Chiang Mai. You will receive a certificate of completion of a 60-hour Thai massage training.

  • Full day Thai cooking class at a local cooking school in Chiang Mai, including a visit to the market to purchase all the cooking ingredients.

  • An all-inclusive guided 3-day hill tribe trekking expedition in the northern province. This unique experience usually include hiking, elephant riding, river rafting, sleeping by a waterfall and also sleeping in hill tribe villages. The trekking guides do not only guide and entertain you - they also cook up some amazingly tasty food on the trekk.

  • Full onsite trip management by Jonas Westring who will "show you all the ropes". You will be pointed to the most interesting temples, best places to eat, greatest places for Thai massage, places to visit, places to shop, etc. We can also help you to extend your stay and give information about visiting the south of Thailand or neighboring countries. We draw from 25 years experience of travel in Asia and our goal is to make this journey as rich and fulfilling as possible for you. We are happy to provide any info you need about practically anything and thereby avoiding much time-consuming hassle on your part.

  • There will be opportunity to take yoga classes with Jonas and with other yoga instructors while staying in Chiang Mai.

  • The Thailand Journey provides various additional treats too numerous to mention here.

Additional expenses:

Thailand is a very affordable country for people arriving with foreign currency. Expenses not covered in the Thailand Journey are based upon your specific needs. The following is not covered and you need to be prepared to add this to your budget.

  • International travel to Bangkok from your home.

  • In order to give you plenty of eating choices we do not include most of your food. This allows you to choose where, when and with whom you decide to eat, and gives you a lot of room to create your own experience. To give you an estimate on your food bill, it’s easy to be "culinary satisfied" by spending as low as $10/day for great, wholesome, tasty (spicy and non-spicy) Thai food. International foods are readily available as well.

  • Local guides, drivers, teachers, massage therapists, and guesthouse staff deserves and appreciates tips. Suggestions on tipping will be given as those situations arise and the US dollar stretches so far that even smaller tips will make a significant difference for local people.

  • Thai massage is readily available at unbelievably reasonable fees, as are great facials, manicures, pedicures, herbal body raps, oil massages, steams, and even tattoos...

  • Affordable shopping is available in abundance, so count on plenty of amazing bargains to bring home for yourself and others.

Cost and payment:

Due to the ongoing rising cost of air travel (fuel, security airport taxes, etc) and the significant weakness of the USD - we have needed to slightly adjust the price for the 2009 Journey. For the entire 23-day 2009 Thailand Journey (excluding the international flight ticket) the cost is still only $2,450 USD. The fee can be made in one single payment (with an early bird discount) or divided into 2 installments for your convenience. Since flight prices are so unstable these days it is unfortunate that we are no longer able to include the internationl flight ticket to Thailand. Instead, will are happy to give you support and advice as how to buy your ticket - and help you arrange a flight where other Thai Journey participants will also be. We also recommend to purchase your tickets soon as we have no control over the rising costs whcih are likely to rise further.

You should make sure to meet up in Bangkok by 2 pm on Wednesday January 7th, 2009 and schedule your departure no earlier than January 28th.

Lastly:

The Thailand Journey is not a luxurious vacation trip. It‘s a comfortable travel experience with like-minded people where we learn, enjoy and respect Buddhist culture while interacting with Thailand and its people on a profound level. It is meant for those who are open to exploring themselves and interested in the rich Buddhist heritage of the people from the "land of a thousand smiles".

By staying true to our simple approach we make this an affordable and precious experience of a lifetime. I personally started traveling to Thailand in 1981 and currently reside in Thailand for part of the year.  I will be there on the Journey to guide, manage, monitor, and support your experience - with the help of many good friends that you will meet along the way.

Let us know if you want to register or have specific questions as we will be glad to assist you.
